Satkhira BNP leader killed in police firing

UNB, Satkhira :
A local leader of BNP was killed in police firing at Islamkati-Sujanshah in Tala upazila early Friday.
The deceased was identified as SM Biplab Kabir, general secretary of Jalalpur union unit BNP and son of late Seher Ali of Doha village in the upazila.
Tala thana SI Kamrul said acting on secret information that a group of criminals were gathering in the area for carrying out sabotage a team of police conducted a drive there around 3 am.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals hurled some crude bombs targeting police prompting police to fire.
Biplab sustained bullet injuries in his leg during the firing while the others managed to flee, he said.
Later, police arrested him and took him to Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours on Friday.
Police recovered four sharp weapons from the spot. Four policemen were injured at that time.
SI Kamrul said, Biplab was wanted at least 10 cases. However, the family members of Biplab alleged that police picked him up from his house at night and then killed him.
