SI Jahid remanded

A court here on Thursday granted a five-day remand for detained sub-inspector Jahidur Rahman of Mipur Police Station and his source Nasim Seikh each in connection with the custodial death of a young trader.Metropolitan magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman passed the order after DB inspector Nibaron Chandra Barman produced SI Jahid and Nasim before the court, seeking a 10-day remand for each of them.Sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam Khan filed a case against eight people, including Jahid and Nasim,with the police station in this connection earlier in the day.Earlier, Mirpur thana police arrested SI Jahid Rahman from Shialbari in Rupnagar Police Station of the city on Wednesday.SI Jahid arrested Mahbubur Rahman Sujan, 35, from the city’s Shankar area in the early hours on July 13.After the arrest, SI Jahid allegedly tortured Sujan brutally in Mirpur thana hajat.As Sujan fell sick, he was admitted to a local clinic and then shifted to Suhrawardy Hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar where doctors declared him dead in the morning of July 13.As family members of the victim alleged that Sujan was tortured to death, SI Jahid was closed to Rajarbagh Police Lines later in the day. An unnatural death (UD) case was then filed with the police station.Police sources said, Mirpur thana police received the postmortem report of Sujan on Wednesday evening, which revealed Sujon died due to ‘homicide’ that prompted the authorities to arrest SI Jahid.
