Tk.352 cr cheque for acquisition of Bay Terminal land handed over to DC

Chattogram Port Authority (CDA) handed over a cheque for Tk.352 crores to Deputy commissioner of Chattogram against the acquisition of 67 acres of private owned lands for construction of Chattogram Bay Terminal on Thursday .
These amount of taka will be distributed to the respective land owners as compensation in a short possible time. The cheque distribution function was arranged at Chattogram Radison Blue hotel in the city duly presided by the chairman of CPA Commodore Zulfikar Aziz .
Minister for Shipping Md. Shahjahan Khan MP graced the occasion as chief guest. City Mayor AJM Nasiruddin, MP MA Latif, CDA chairman Abdus Salam, Dy commissioner Md. Ilias Hossain and the CCCI President Mahbubul Alam were present in it as special guests.
In the function, Shipping Minister formally handed over the cheque to Dy commissioner . In his welcome address, CPA chairman said the CP is the heart centre of national economy. He said at present we had to wait for berthing of vessel in the inner berths depending on sea tide .
He further said after construction of the proposed Bay Terminal , preliminary we will be able to handle 5 lakh TEUs container subject to increase of 30 TEUs in phases without depending on sea tide or ebb tide. He hoped that BT may be commissioned by middle of next year.
