Ban on green chilli, brinjal, lemon export in Ramzan

The government has banned export of green chilli, brinjal, lemon, cucumber and coriander leaves to keep the price of these essentials under purchasing capacity during the holy month of Ramzan.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed disclosed it while talking to the reporters in his secretariat office on Wednesday afternoon.
He said that the ban had been made effective from Wednesday and would remain in force till the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
“The prices of essentials will remain stable during the holy month as the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has enough stock,” Tofail said.
He also said that the government had decided to import onion from Turkey and Myanmar to keep its prices stable in the local market. This decision was taken after the Indian government had increased the export price of onion
Besides, the government would also provide duty-free facilities for importing food items in case of hike in price in the world market, he said.
The minister said that they had talked with the importers, stakeholders and businessmen to keep commodity price stable and ensure their smooth supply during the Ramadan.
“They have assured us of keeping the price of the essentials within the purchasing capacity of the commoners. They have also assured that they will not create any artificial crisis of the commodities in the market during the holy month,” he said.
Tofail Ahmad also warned of instant action against the willful defaulters and creators of artificial crisis of food items.
