Child born without scalp dies at CMCH

The child who was born without scalp and brain died in Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on early Sunday.
On Saturday at an Upazila health complex in Banshkhali, a mother identified as Jannatul Nayme, 23, wife of Abdur Rahman, hailed from Shekerkhil , gave birth to the child.
Dr Towhidul Anwar, Medical Officer of the health complex, said due to virus infection in the mother’s womb, the child was born without scalp.
However, the doctors at CMCH did not allow the journalists to take photographs of the child.
In medical term ‘Anencephaly’ is the absence of a major portion of the brain, skull, and scalp that occurs during embryonic development. It is a cephalic disorder that results from a neural tube defect that occurs when the rostral (head) end of the neural tube fails to close, usually between the 23rd and 26th day following conception.
