A Chittagong court has granted a two-day remand of Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, former Assistant Proctor of Chittagong University, who was arrested in the case of Central Chhatra League leader Diaz Irtafan Chowdhury murder case.
Chittagong district Senior Judicial Magistrate Shiplu Kumar Deb granted a two-day remand after police produced Anwar Hossain before it, while The investigation officer of the case, CID Chittagong Regional Assistant Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin , requested for a five-day remand.
Confirming the matter, Advocate Abu Mansur told that the court has ordered a two-day remand and also ordered to submit the report within December 24.
Anwar Hossain Chowdhury surrendered before a Chittagong court on Monday. Hearing the bail petition , Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mashiur Rahman rejected the bail petition and sent him to jail.
On the other hand,a fraction of Chittagong University Chhatra League held for two days protest programs including ‘Protes Procession’ and ‘Human Chain’ at CU campus. The protesters are known as the other accused men and their followers. One of the accused men of case and former CU BCL president Mohammed Amalgir Tipu led the programs Diaz, the former joint secretary of CU Chhatra League unit and also assistant secretary of central Chhatra League, was found dead in his flat near the Gate 2 area of Chittagong University on November 20, 2016. Hathazari Police recovered his hanging body from his bedroom but could not determine the exact cause of death. Family members have alleged that Diaz was murdered before being hanged, as his mobile phone was missing and his legs were seen touching the bed, creating suspicion over whether it was a suicide.
Diaz’s mother, Jaheda Amin Chowdhury, is also an employee of Chittagong University and claims the murder was masterminded by a teacher who holds an administrative post and one of the top leaders of the Chhatra League unit.
She filed a case with the court accusing 10 leaders and activists of Chhatra League including Anwar, also an assistant professor at the Sociology department of the university.
