Traditional Rajpunyah begins in Bandarban today

The traditional Rajpunyah festival, to mark the annual tax collection by the 17th Bomang Circle King Engineer Ucha Prue, will start at Rajar Math in the town on Friday.
It is the 140th Rajpunyah festival that will start at 10am through taking tax and gifts from the subjects by the king.
Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader, MP, is expected to attend the function as chief guest. Besides, State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, MP, and local elites will also attend the function.
Headmen of 109 mouzas including 95 under seven upazilas of Bandarban District and 14 under Kaptai and Rajasthali upazilas of Rangamati District including more than 800 karbaris will hand over the tax and gifts during the ceremony. Mentionable, the Rajpunyah festival has been going on since 1875.
Bomang Prince Cho Shing Prue Bonny said all preparations including proper security measures centring the festival have been taken.
In this connection, a fair will be organised where different events including merry-go-round and puppet show will also be held.
Superintended of Police Sanjit Kumar Roy said necessary measures have been taken in this connection.
