3 traffickers sued for firing in Bay of Bengal

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent :
Bangladesh Coast-guard on Thursday sued three detained human traffickers for firing on a trawler in the Bay of Bengal that left five Bangladeshis killed and over a hundred injured on Wednesday.
The accused are Thai citizens Sang and Mong and Myanmar national Abdul Gofur, said Lt Gazi Harun-Ur Rashid, commander of Teknaf Coast-guard unit.
The case was filed with the Teknaf Model Police Station, he added.
The Coast-guard men sent the bodies of the victims to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy on Thursday morning.
Bangladeshi fortune seekers were killed and at least 151 injured when a gang of miscreants from Myanmar opened fire on a trawler carrying over 300 people to Malaysia.
Coast-guard detained the human traffickers, Thai citizens Sang and Mong and Myanmar national Abdul Gofur — after towing the boat to St Martin’s Island through the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday. Among the injured, 29 Bangladeshis have been undergoing treatment in a local hospital since Wednesday night, said Moktar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Police Station of Cox’s Bazar.
On the other hand, 285 Bangladeshis, who were on the trawler during the firing, were shifted to Teknaf from St Martin last morning.
Twelve more Bangladeshis remained missing since the incident occurred.
