Students get Tk 58 lakh edn scholarship in Bandarban

At total of 1,281 students of different educational institutions of the district got education scholarship of Tk 57.60 lakh from Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board.
According to sources at the Board source, 215 college students and 212 university students of seven upazilas in the district got the much-desired scholarship. The remaining 854 students are the residents of Rangamati and Khagrachchari.
The college-level each student got Tk 4,000 while the university-level student got Tk 5,000 each.
State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Bir Bahadur U Shwe Sing handed over the money to the students at Arun Sharki Town Hall in the district town on Saturday.
Among others, Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Vice-Chairman Tarun Kanti Ghosh, District Deputy Commissioner Delip Kumar Banik, Parbattya District Parishad Executive Officer Mohammad Nurul Absar, Additional Superintendant of Police Mohammad Kamruzzaman, Cantonment Public School and College Principal Rezaul Islam, and Government Women College Principal Pradeep Barua were also present.
In his speech, Bir Bahadur said the government has special plan to improve the education standard and raise the literacy rate in the hill tracts districts. The government has already taken decision to build colleges in every upazila.If the plans have been implemented, the education quality will be improved in the districts.
The minister also informed that the scholarship money will be one crore in future.
“Do not raise the quantity, increase the quality,” the minister suggested.
Meanwhile, the students said the scholarship money will play a vital role in continuing the study of the poor talented students.
They also urged the authority concerned to remove the teacher crisis in all secondary and higher secondary schools in the districts.
