



Suspected mugger lynched in Gazipur

A suspected mugger was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Tongi Station Road in sadar upazila early Friday. The deceased was identified as Sujan, 30. Quoting witnesses, police said one Sajal along with his wife and sister went to a local restaurant near Tongi Rail Station on Thursday night on their way to Gazipur intersection from Noakhali.
As they came out after having meal at the restaurant, a gang of muggers swooped on them and snatched away their belongings including gold ornaments and cash. As they raised hue and cry, locals came to their rescue and caught Sujan and gave him a good beating, leaving him dead on the spot. Being informed, police rushed in and recovered the body. Sujan was a member of a mugger gang, said police.
3 persons electrocuted in Naogaon
NAOGAON: Three persons, including a couple, were electrocuted on Thursday in two separate incidents at Bhandarpur and Chak Uli villages of the district. The deceased were identified as farmer Abdul Hamid, 40, and his wife Ojida,35 of Bhandarpur village under Badalgachi upazila and Saidur Rahman Miraj,65 of Chak Uli village in Manda upazila of the district. Police and eyewitnesses said the first incident occurred when Abdul Hamid came under electrocution of a live wire as he was repairing a tubewell at his home and received critical injuries. His wife Ojida also received serious injuries when she came to save her husband. Both were sent to Joypurhat General Hospital where attending doctors declared them dead. In the second incident, Saidur Rahman Miraj received an electric shock when he was working with welding at his home. He died on the spot. Two separate UD cases were recorded with concerned police stations, reports BSS.
Man held with firearm, bombs in Kushtia
KUSHTIA: Members of plainclothes police arrested a man along with a firearm and three bombs from Char Milpara in sadar upazila early Thursday. The arrested was identified as Saiful Islam Shahid,28, son of late Siraj Uddin of Baniapara in Kumarkhali upazila. Acting on secret information that a group of criminals gathered in the area, a team of detective police raided the house of Deen Islam and arrested Shahid in the early hours, said Jahid Bin Alam, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Detective Branch of police. Later after interrogation police recovered a rifle and three hand-made bombs from the ceiling of the house roof, reports UNB.
Reconstructed Barthi Tara Mandir inaugurated

Reconstructed historical Barthi Tara Mandir (temple) and idol of Kali inaugurated at Gournadi in Barisal on Thursday with day long special religious rituals, decoration and lighting.Pronab Kumar Babu Datta, secretary of the temple committee, said the Mandir was 300 years old and reconstructed in 18 months. The religious rituals and programmes held on this occasion at the temple premises were special prayer and worships conducted by a group of 8 priest leading immersion of the old idol and placing and bathing of new idol of Goddess Kali, reading from religious books like Chandi Path, sacrificing animal, performing Yaggya, distributing sacrificed food, offering religious songs, performing cultural function led by renowned artist Nakul Biswas and his group etc. The programmes were attended by hundreds of people coming from different region and four wide-screen visual sets were placed for viewing the programmes at Barthi Bazaar near the temple.
Woman killed in accident in C’nawabganj

A woman was killed in a road mishap at Laksmipur under Baroghoria union of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila on Friday noon.The deceased was identified as Sumi Begum, 25, wife of Abu Bakkar of Nichu Dhumi village under the same upazila.Police said, when Sumi was going home by a rickshaw at around 11-340 am, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit her rickshaw killing her on the spot. After killing her, the truck fled away.
