University T20 Challenge Cup Cricket: AIUB win title beating ULAB by 80 runs
The American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) clinched the Walton Refrigerator 2nd University T20 Challenge Cup title beating University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) by 80 runs in the final at BKSP ground-3 in Savar on Thursday.
Earlier, AIUB (group-C champion) confirmed their final berth beating Rajshahi University (group-B champion) by 9 wickets while ULAB (group-A champion) reached the final defeating Bangladesh Agricultural University (group-D champion), also by 9 wickets in the semifinals at BKSP Ground- 4 and 3 respectively on Wednesday.
In all, twelve teams – 10 public and two private universities – took part in the five-day meet sponsored by Walton.
In the day’s final, sent in to bat first, AIUB posted a challenging 165 runs for 6 in stipulated 20 overs with the help of 84/1 in 8 overs in the opening stand by Anamul Haque and Saikat Ali.
Anamul Haque scored the team highest 44 runs off 32 balls with four fours and two sixes while opener Saikat Ali added 41 runs off 20 balls with four fours and three sixes.
Kamrul Islam, who scored not out 22 off 14 balls with two sixes, and later took two wickets for his side, was adjudged man-of-the-match.
Mehrab Hossain Jr (17), Tanvir Haider (15) and Anisur Rahman (15) were the other notable scorers for AIUB.
Hasanuzzaman claimed three wickets for 22 runs while Tonmoy Roy, Avishek Mitra and Anjam Ahmed took one wicket each for 14, 19 and 38 runs respectively.
Chasing 166 runs to win, ULAB were restricted to 85 for 9 in 20 overs.
Altaf Kamal scored the team highest 19 runs while Mahbub Hossain (17), Asif Pathan (17) and Morsalin Bin Mortaja (12) were the other double digit scorers for ULAB.
Faizur Rahman, Towfiqul Haq, Tanvir Haider and Kamrul Islam took 2 wickets each for 10, 10, 11 and 16 runs respectively.
