5,241 houses affected by cyclone in 14 upazilas

Most parts of Chittagong city under the influence of severe cyclonic storm ‘Mora’ experienced rainfall causing immense sufferings to city dwellers for the last two days.
A good number of houses, business establishments, offices and educational institutions in the low lying areas, including Chawkbazar, Sholoshahar, Bahaddarhat, Muradpur, Bakalia, Halishahar and Agrabad, have been flooded with rainwater, much to cause sufferings for inhabitants of the areas. Shanties and kutcha houses in slums and the low lying areas of the city have been inundated by cyclonic and tidal water .Mentionable that the ground floor of the Maa-o-Shishu Hospital of Agrabad area in the city inundated by cyclonic water and all the patients in ground floor shifted to fourth floor, hospital sources said. According to district control room sources , 5,241 kutcha and semi pucca houses in 14 upazilas of the district damaged either partially or totally by the influence of cyclone Mora .
The coastal upazilas of the district also affected with tidal surge . The worstly affected coastal upazilas are Sandwip, Sitakunda, Mirsarai, Anwara, Banskhali, Karnaphuli , Chandanaish .
Sources further said 14250 residents of these upazila were affected by Mora and the district administration has prepared a primary list of the affected people. Sources said 284 medical teams are working in these affected areas and district authority sent relief materials to the affected areas .
