NBR chief urges fool proof security of CCH

Md Nojibur Rahman, Chairman of the National Board of Revenue said it is urgent to increase the capacity of Chittagong Customs House (CCH) and ensure its full-proof security for boosting the revenue collection.
“If anyone tries to threat the customs house officials or hamper its security they will have to pay price. These people are threats for the country. We are taking legal action against them,” said the NBR chief while exchanging views with members of Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) at CCH here on Thursday.
He said steps have been taken to identify those who are involved in harassing revenue officials-employees. “We are trying to root out them,” he added. The NBR chairman said none will be allowed to use CCH for achieving their petty interest. A team of NBR and ERF are now visiting Chittagong to see the activities of CCH and Chittagong Port. Nojibor Rahman said Chittagong Port is a big establishment for international trade and it is urgent to increase the ability of this port for expansion of trade. Steps have already been taken to modernization of the activities of customs, he added.

Mass media, especially the economic reporters, can play a participatory role in this regard, he said. The NBR chairman said the CCH has already been freed from outsiders. He said a massive change is being made in the CCH’s auction system. None will be allowed to make their fortune by using the CCH, he added.
