Bangladesh eves suffer crushing 67 runs defeat in ICC women cricket
Poor batting display by Bangladeshi batters allowed Pakistan to record a 67-run victory over Bangladesh in the group B match of ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier held on Wednesday at P Sara Oval in Colombo.
Chasing decent target of 228 runs set by Pakistan, the Tigresses found the chase too stiff, losing wickets at regular intervals and finally to be bowled out for 160. Middle order batsman Nigar Sultana was the top scorer for Bangladesh with 41 runs followed by first down Sanjida Islam 34.
Ghulam Fatema was the pick of Pakistan bowler as she grabbed three wickets conceding 28 runs. She was well supported by Sama Mir and Nasra Sandhu who both picked up two wickets apiece conceding 19 and 27 runs respectively.
Earlier, a disciplined effort helped Bangladesh to restrict Pakistan to 227 after 50 overs in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier match at P Sara Oval, Colombo today.
Bangladesh captain Rumana Ahmed claimed three wickets for 40 runs in 10 overs while Khadija Tul Kubra and Salma Khatun bagged two wickets apiece to peg back the Pakistani batsmen, despite the two Pakistani openers established a solid 76-run opening stand in 18.5 overs.
After the Pakistan lost three quick wickets were reduced to 3-78. The fourth wicket stand of 69 in 14.4 overs followed by the sixth wicket partnership of 49 in 8.3 enabled Pakistan to score over two hundred land mark.
For Pakistan, Bismah Maroof, Rabiya Shah, Ayesha Zafar and Aliya Riaz all got out in the thirties. Bismah’s 35 in 52 balls was studded four boundaries. Rabiya and Aliya late surge added some quick runs in the end.
Bangladesh will play their next group match against Scotland on Friday (February 10). Earlier, on Tuesday, the Tigresses got off toa winning start in the tournament as they dumped Papua New Guinea by 118 runs in their tournament opening match.
