Gold trader, brother abducted in Gazipur

Our Gazipur Correspondent :A gold trader and his brother were abducted at Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur district during the early hours of Monday.The victims have been identified as Din Mohan Mondal, 50, son of Madhab Mohan Mondal, a gold trader and his brother Kedani Mohan Mondal.Din Mohan’s wife Purabi Rani Barman said that at least 10 people, identifying themselves as Kaliakoir police, picked them up from their Sutrapur residence around 3am.”They came by two private cars and a microbus”, she saidAll of them were in plain clothes. But police said that they knew nothing,” said weeping Purabi Rani. Admitting the matter, Gazipur SP MA Baten told The New Nation yesterday that they came to know the incident and were trying to recover the abducted persons. When asked, Omar Faruque, officer in-charge (OC) of Kaliakoir Police Station said, we are working with the case and several teams of Gazipur police are conducting drives to rescue the victims.He also said that the family had a dispute over a land with some business group, which wanted to buy their land. But the family disagreed to sell the land. Efforts are on to resolve the case keeping the issue in mind. The victim family lodged a case with the police station in this afternoon in this regard, Omar Faruque, he added.
