4 Govt offices ransacked in AL factional clash , 20 injured

Four public offices of Gournadi upazila under Barisal district ransacked in AL factional clash over tender submission on Sunday afternoon.
At least 20 people were injured , 12 motorcycles damaged in the clash and law enforcers disbursed the mob by chasing.
Witnesses and local sources said tenders for leasing of 21 local hut-bazaars, construction of educational institutions at the cost of Tk 4.5 core were managed under ‘Guchh'(mututal negotiation) system in last 3 months in the upazila.
Recently tenders worth Tk 60 lakhs under LGED were called and April 29 was the last date of purchasing forms and April 30 was date for submission and opening tender.
The aspirant AL contractors led by Shah Alam Khan and Farhad Munshi, upazila chairman and vice-chairman held a Guchh meeting over those tender at their office on Sunday noon.
Hearing this news followers of upazila AL secretary and municipal Mayor rushed to upazila complex and rival groups engaging in altercation and scuffles started chasing, counter chasing and clash with lethal weapons and brickbats.
Offices of the upazila chairman, vice chairman, accountant and LGED engineer were ransacked, 12 motorcycles of both groups were damaged and panic gripped in the upazila complex during the incident.
