Unrest has been prevailing at the Ready Made Garment (RMG) sector in the port city recently.
Almost every day the RMG workers are bringing out processions to increase their wages. More than two hundred workers of a garment factory at Sagorika area came out on the road and brought procession demanding their due wages on Tuesday morning. The workers gathered at the factory area at around 9 am and later agitated demanding their due wages immediately.
The workers alleged that the owner of the Gents Express, a RMG factory situated at Sagorika road had assured that the wages would be paid by January-10. But, after one week of the schedule, the owner is yet to pay the due wages. However, the agitated workers brought out processions on the road and police rushed to the spot at around 11 am. Meanwhile, police brought the situation under control at around 1 pm. Alamgir Hossain, the officer in-charge of Pahartoli thana said, “We tried to control the situation by discussion with the owners of the Gents Express.”
PDB worker dies falling from electric pole : A worker of the Power Development Board (PDB) died after falling from the electric pole in Chandgaon Faridapara area of Chittagong city yesterday.
The deceased was Abdul Mannan, 45, of Sonaimuri in Noakhali. He was a lineman of PDB in Chittagong.
Mannan got critically injured after falling from the electric pole while he was working in the area, said Nayek Gorilal Chakma of CMCH police camp.
He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later.
