



‘Sangrai’ festival of Rakhain begins

A three-day traditional ‘Sangrai (Water Showering) festival of indigenous Rakhain community began at Amkhola Rakhain Para in coastal Kuakata area under Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali on Friday afternoon. The festival organised to celebrate the Rakhin New Year 1376 in their traditional manner. The festival inauguration ceremony was presided over by local Rakhain community leader U Tha Ching Mong Talukdar and addressed by local elites. The celebration included spraying and splashing water on each other, a sign of washing away the sorrows, ailments and sins of the previous year and heralding a fresh beginning of another new year. Community and religious rituals, discussions, traditional games, cultural programmes, food festivals also be held on this occasion.On the occasion of Sangrai festival on first day of their community-calendar year, the men and women wake up early in the morning and take a bath. They clean up and decorate their homes and surroundings with flowers.
Training on research methodology begins

A training programme for the researchers styled ‘Training Course on Research Methodology’ began at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Saturday. Director of BAU Research System (BAURES) and BAU Teachers’ Association (BAUTA) president Prof. Dr. Lutful Hasan inaugurated the programme as the chief guest while Graduate Training Institute (GTI) director professor Masuma Habib presided over it. Consultant of NADP Dr. MA Siddique and director, training, of Bangladesh Agricultural research Council (BARC) Md. Aminuzzaman were present as special guests. Funded by BARC, the GTI of BAU has organized the training programme that will continue till May 1, 2014. Thirty researchers from different agricultural research institutes are participating in the training programme.
Arms, ammo, gun powder recovered Chapainawabganj Correspondent
RAB members arrested three persons with a pistol, 1.25 kg of gun powder, four rounds of bullet and a magazine from Kaliganj under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Friday afternoon.The arrested persons were identified as Abdur Razzaq Kalu, 20, son of Harunur Rashid of Monakasha, Ariful Islam, 30, son of late Bazlur Rahman of Parchowka and Insarul, 22, son of Kubel Ali of Garatola all under Shibganj upazila of the district. RAB said, a patrol team of RAB, on secret information, raided the Ismail Memorial High School premises at Kaliganj area and arrested them red handed with the arms, ammunition and gun powder at 3 pm. A case was filed with the police station in this connection, the sources added.
15 hurt in clash over land dispute

At least 15 people have been injured in a clash between two rival groups over land dispute on Thursday morning at Mashakhali Union of Gafargaon under Mymensingh. One injured has been admitted into Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and the two others have been admitted into Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex. Sources said ,Zabber Mea and his nephew Shamsul Mea of Mukhi village at Mashakhali Union had a long standing land dispute of houses.In the Thursday morning two rival groups were dispute to recover the land.At this the land feued at least 15 people were injured.Among them Khurseda Khatun and Parvin Akter have been admitted into upazila Health complex. On the other hand,Samad Mea of Mukhi village had a long standing fish Gher of Gani Mea of Vatori village over Shila river flowing over Mashakhali Union.In the Thursday morning at the time of dropping soil of grabbing Gher Nazmul son of Samad Mea went to recover his gher.At this being got furiousGani Mea and his people hit with enraged Nazmul injured.After that people admitted Nazmul in a critical condition into Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.OC of Pagla Thana said,getting complained a lawful action will be taken.
