England fight back after Tamim`s ton

England fought back scoring 50 runs for the loss of three wickets after opener Tamim Iqbal’s century, which powered Bangladesh to make 220 in the first innings on the first day of the second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.
Bangladesh made a sorrow start as opener Imrul Kayes (1) was caught at the point by Ben Duckett off Chris Woakes when Bangladesh’s score was just one.
After dismissal of Kayes, dashing opener Tamim Iqbal and promising Mominul Haque repaired the damage contributing together 170 runs for the second wicket partnership before Tamim Iqbal was trapped leg before wicket by Moeen Ali when the Tigers’ total was 171 for the loss of two wickets.
Tamim Iqbal hit a wonderful 104 from 147 balls featuring 12 fours. Tamim fulfilled his eighth Test century using 139 balls.
After departure of Tamim Iqbal, the Bangladesh batsmen failed to make any notable partnership.
One-down Mominul Haque was bowled out by Moeen Ali when Bangladesh’s score was 190 for the loss of three wickets.
Mominul Haque made a painstaking 66 from 111 deliveries with 10 fours. Mominul reached his tenth Test fifty-run landmark playing 71 balls.
After dismissal of Mominul Haque, Bangladesh lost their batsmen in regular intervals.
Second-down Mahmudullah Riyad (13) was caught at the slip by Alastair Cook off Ben Stokes when the hosts’ total was 196 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim (4) was caught at the leg slip by Alastair Cook off Moeen Ali when Bangladesh’s score was 201 for the loss of five wickets.
After removal of Mushfiqur Rahim, promising Sabbir Rahman (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow off Ben Stokes when the home side’s total was 202 for the loss of six wickets.
Then Shuvagata Hom (6) was caught behind by Bairstow off Chris Woakes when Bangladesh’s score was 212 for the loss of seven wickets.
After departure of Hom, Mehedi Hasan (1) was trapped leg before wicket by Moeen Ali when the hosts’ total was 213 for the loss of eight wickets.
Then Shakib Al Hasan (10) could stay at the crease for a short period as he was caught behind by Bairstow off Chris Woakes when the hosts’ score was 215 for the loss of nine wickets.
Tail-ender Kamrul Islam Rabbi (0) was caught at the slip by Joe Root by a delivery of Moeen Ali when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Moeen Ali captured five wickets at the cost of 57 runs, while Chris Woakes grabbed three wickets instead of 30 runs and Ben Stokes begged a pair of wickets for 13 runs.
England had a poor start as opener Ben Duckett (7) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Shakib Al Hasan when the tourists’ score was 10 for the loss of one wicket.
Then promising right-arm off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz dismissed Alastair Cook (14) when England’s total was 24 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Gary Ballance (9) was caught behind by Mushfiqur Rahim off Mehedi Hasan when the visitor’s score was 42 for the loss of three wickets.
After removal of Ballance, England could play more 2.1 overs as the first day play came to an end due to rain.
Joe Root remained unbeaten with 15 while Moeen Ali was on 2.
Mehedi Hasan begged a pair of wickets at the cost of 26 runs while Shakib Al Hasan got one wicket for 21 runs.
