CPB-BSD joint Teesta march today

Staff Reporter :The three-day Dhaka-Teesta long march of left leaning parties begins this morning (Thursday) while BNP will start its two-day long march from next Tuesday (April 22) demanding fair water sharing of 54 common rivers, including the Teesta, from India. The two left leaning parties– the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD)– will start their long march from in front of the National Press Club this morning after a rally there, said leaders of the two parties. The long march will reach Dalia near the Teesta Barrage via Tongi-Gazipur-Sirajganj-Bogra-Rangpur on Saturday afternoon where a grand  rally will be held. CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim said that they had planned to hold rallies at different towns and points on way to the Teesta Barrage. “India has been unilaterally withdrawing water from Teesta River at the upper basin, therefore the vast areas of greater Rangpur, Dinajpur and Bogra is being dried and the cultivation of crops and vegetables is harmfully affected. For this reason, we are going to hold the long march,” he said. According to the leaders of CPB and BSD, the marchers will hold roadside rallies at Tongi, Gazipur and make night halt in Sirajganj on the first day. On the second day, they will hold a rally in Sirajganj in the morning and start for Bogra, holding roadside rallies and stay in Bogra. On the third day, the marchers will start for Teesta Barrage in the morning and hold a rally at Dalia Point of Hatirbandhar. The long march will end after the rally.
