A Turkish prosecutor on Tuesday ordered the detention of 125 police officers in the investigation of a religious movement the government blames for an unsuccessful military coup, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
It was the second wave of arrests since Oct. 7 to target suspected coup plotters in the police force, the private Dogan News Agency said on its website.
Authorities were conducting raids in Istanbul, and among the officers being sought were 30 deputy police chiefs, Anadolu said. No one was immediately available at the prosecutor’s office to comment on the warrants.
Turkey expresses solidarity with Pakistan on Kashmir

Turkey has expressed complete support for Pakistan on the Kashmir issue, Radio Pakistan reported on Tuesday.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who was representing Pakistan at a World Energy Council (WEC) meeting in Istanbul, met with and apprised Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim about the human rights violations by Indian forces in held Kashmir. The Turkish prime minister expressed solidarity with Pakistan.
1.4m need aid in Haiti after hurricane

Haiti faces a humanitarian crisis that requires a “massive response” from the international community, the United Nations chief said, with at least 1.4 million people needing emergency aid following last week’s battering by Hurricane Matthew. The storm left at least 372 dead in the impoverished Caribbean nation, with the toll likely to rise sharply as rescue workers reach previously inaccessible areas.
Israel demolishes Palestinian home

The Israeli military on Tuesday demolished the family home of a Palestinian convicted of being an accomplice to a deadly attack on Israelis last year, while security was stepped up for a Jewish holiday that is set to begin at sundown.
The military said the accomplice, Amjad Elewi, assisted in the “planning and execution” of a shooting attack that killed two Israelis who were driving their car in the West Bank.
