Canadian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Benoit-Pierre Laramee celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child 2016 by congratulating the Bangladesh U-16 Women’s Football team at a function at the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) House on Monday for their outstanding performance.
The Canadian High Commissioner congratulated the Bangladeshi girls and the team management presenting them a crest at the BFF conference room on Monday afternoon.
Addressing the function, the Canadian envoy said, “The Bangladeshi girls, who qualified for next year’s final round of the Asian meet, got an opportunity to face the top eight Asian teams as the regional champions of the prestigious Asian Junior soccer meet. I read about your background and observed that football is giving you a better chance in life, allowing you to achieve your dreams, you are more equipped to face some challenges such as early marriage and violence against women,” he added.
“I hope to see one day the Bangladesh Women’s National Football Team competing with the Canadian Team,” the envoy concluded.
BFF president Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin, senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy and BFF Women’s Wing chairperson Mahfuza Akhter Kiron were also present on the occasion.
Salahuddin said, “It’s a great pleasure for me and the girls, we thanked Canadian High Commissioner for visiting our office, I feel proud for the girls.”
Recently, the Canadian Women’s National Soccer Team won the bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics defeating Brazil.
