Akhtaruzzaman Chy Flyover to open to traffic in Jan ’17

The construction of 5.2-kilometer flyover from Muradpur to WASA in Chittagong will be complete in December, six months ahead of the scheduled time.
The Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Flyover is expected to be inaugurated in January 2017.
The work of the biggest flyover in Chittagong was scheduled to end in June 2017 at an estimated cost of Taka 462.2959 core.
Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Abdus Salam said, “We want to open to traffic the Muradpur-WASA flyover in January 2017. A plan has been made to this end and the work is progressing fast.”
People from all strata believe the completion of Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Flyover will ease traffic movement in the port city. Chittagong Medical College former Principal Dr. Sultanul Alam told BSS that traffic congestion increased in Muradpur-GEC-Lalkhan Bazar road in the last few years.
He thinks construction of a flyover over this road was an epoch-making decision as it will ease vehicular movement in the city.
Project Director Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman said the Muradpur-WASA flyover will remain as an instance of flawless and quick work.
During a visit to the flyover site, it was seen that huge activities are continuing in the project area. An official of the construction firm said work is going on to complete the project by December.
The Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Flyover project was first approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) on June 1, 2010. The project was approved again on October 1, 2013 with amendments.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated construction work of the project on November 12, 2014.
