Massive dev projects taken up

Cox’s Bazar set to get facelift

UNB, Dhaka :
The government has taken a number of projects, including an exclusive tourist zone, to make Cox’s Bazar, the world’s longest unbroken sea beach, more attractive to local and foreign tourists.
The exclusive tourist zone will be established at Sabrang of Teknak upazila.
According to a government document accessed by UNB, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for establishing the exclusive tourist zone.
As per the MoU, BEZA has taken initiatives to finish the initial site assessment, prepare a master plan, construct coastal dams, widen roads and construct link roads.
The government has already allocated Tk 12.90 crore for this project to acquire land. Around 1,028 acres of land will be acquired for the project. The total project cost is yet to be fixed as its duration still remains undecided.
There will be hotels, cottages, beach villas, night clubs, a convention hall and an amusement park under the project.
A marine drive road in the area is underway, while a four-lane road would be developed to reach the zone.
The government has taken another project, titled ‘Development of tourism resort and entertainment village at Parjatan Holiday Complex in Cox’s Bazar’.
This will be constructed on a land of Hotel Shoibal under a public private partnership (PPP) initiative.
Four organisations have been short-listed after evaluating the request for qualification (RFQ) and request for proposals (RFP) have been issued to the selected organisations.
Another PPP project has been taken to establish an international standard tourism complex on the existing Motel Upal Compound of BPC in the beach town. The RFP will be issued as the feasibility study of the project has been completed.
An initiative has been taken to set up a tourism training institute at the land of Motel Prabal, owned by Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation.
The government has taken yet another plan to set up a tourism centre at the deep sea port in Maheshkhali upazila.
According to the official document, the construction works of developing a tourism resort and entertainment village at Parjatan Holiday Complex and establishment of an international standard tourism complex on the existing Motel Upal Compound of BPC will start by 2017.
Besides, the feasibility study on the Tourism Training Institute on the land of Motel Prabal will complete by 2017.
Talking to UNB a senior official at the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry said both local and foreign tourists will get more facilities once the projects are implemented.
