Bangladesh-Zimbabwe T20 series, a review
Sabbir Hossain :
Bangladesh and Zimbabwe took part in a four-match Twenty20 International series at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna recently. The series ended in a 2-2 draw. Though Bangladesh had a 2-0 lead but later, they conceded two consecutive defeats by their African counterpart. Bangladesh played with four debutante cricketers in the third match.
Thus, Bangladesh conceded a defeat. An official of BCB said that the Team Management did an experiment. He added that BCB had a target to make second team. He also added thatBangladesh had to play many matches in the Asia Cup and ICC Twenty20 World Cup Cricket.
But most of the cricket critics think BCB could do the experiment after the third match.
However, we if we see the scorecards of those matches, we get some achievements and success from the cricketers of home side.
Specially Shakib Al Hasan captured his 400 international wickets in this series. Shakib bagged his 50th T20 wickets in the fourth match against Zimbabwe. Shakib Al Hasan is the only Bangladeshi who claimed 50 T20 wickets.
Sabbir Rahman, who batted in one-down spot through out the series, has proved by his consistent performance that he can be taken into confidence as a dependable batsman for the team in coming days. Sabbir Rahman scored (43+46+50) 139 runs in the three consecutive matches but in the last match he was out for just one run.
Shakib Al Hasan captured (1+0+3+1) 5 wickets in four matches.
‘Wonder Boy’ Mustafizur Rahman bagged four wickets playing two matches.
On the other hand, ace batsman Hamilton Masakadza of Zimbabwe was adjudged the Player of the Series for his consistent batting performance. He scored (79+30+20+93) 222 runs in four matches.
Most unfortunate information is Bangladesh are now in the 11th position instead of 10th position in the ICC World Twenty20 rankings, according to the latest ICC Rating as Bangladesh made a 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe recently. Scotland have taken the 10th spot while Afghanistan has secured ninth position.
