U-19 Cricket: Bangladesh win ODI series beating West Indies by 171 runs

Hosts Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team, riding on a century by Pinak Ghosh, won the three-match Youth ODI series 2-0 outplaying touring West Indies Under-19 side by a huge 171 runs in the 2nd match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Thursday.
Bangladesh Youth team, which earned a convincing eight-wicket victory against the Caribbean team in the first match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur last Monday, will play the 3rd and last match on Saturday at the same venue to whitewash the West Indies side.
In the day’s match, Bangladesh batted first after winning the toss and piled up a comfortable 299 runs for 5 in stipulated 50 overs.
Bangladesh faced an initial batting jolt after losing opener Saif Hasan (5) and one down Joyraj Sheikh (21) for 44 runs in 11 overs, but another opener Pinak Ghosh pairing with Nazmul Hasan Shanta carried the team total in a comfortable position contributing 179 runs in the 3rd wicket stand.
Pinak Ghosh hammered a century scoring 109 runs of 135 balls featuring nine boundaries and was adjudged man of the match.
Two down Nazmul Hasan Shanta contributed 79 runs off 98 balls hitting five fours and one six while skipper Mehedi Hasan Miraj quickfired an unconquered 54 runs off just 26 balls including seven fours and one six.
AS Joseph claimed two wickets for 50 runs
Chasing a huge target, the Caribbean youth team were bundled out cheaply for 128 runs in 49.3 overs with KMA Paul making 25, GD Pope 23 and SP Crooks 17 runs.
Saleh Ahmed Shawon Gazi and Mehedi Hasan Rana grabbed three wickets each conceding 19 and 35 runs respectively while Mohammad Saifuddin took two wickets for 18 runs.
