DCCI celebrates 58th anniversary

Bangladesh needs huge local and foreign investment in order to support the sustainable development process of ‘SDG 2030’ and ‘DCCI’s vision 2030’-to become the 30th largest economy in the world, said Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Hossain Khaled on Wednesday.
“In the year 1958, the Muslim Chamber of Commerce and United Chamber of Commerce merged into Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry with a motto to facilitate trade and commerce in Dhaka region as well as in the country”, said the DCCI President while addressing the 58th anniversary of the chamber at Radisson Hotel in the city.
Hossain Khaled urged the government to extend support in pro-business policy reforms, result-oriented plan of actions, forming national SDG Committee, local and international partnership as well focused initiatives to improvise the ease of doing business condition to maintain growth process.
Speaking as chief guest, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said that the budget size of 2016-17 would be of more than Tk. 3000 crore. Cournty earned $32 billion from export in the last fiscal,said the minister. “If there were no devaluation of EURO we would have achieved $35 billion export target”, said Tofail.
The government is giving importance to ship building, jute, pharmaceuticals, leather, and agro-products. He also informed that government is planning to give cash incentive to non-traditional items.
Some IT companies of United Kingdom have shown their keen interest to invest about $4 billion in Bangladesh.
He called upon the businessmen to do their business without fear as the government is committed to facilitate businesses to attain the targeted economic growth.
During the event, on behalf of DCCI Foundation Hossain Khaled formally handed over a cheque of Tk. 20,00,000/- (Tk. twenty lac) to the Chairman of Centre for Zakat Management (CZM) Niaz Rahim for conducting micro entrepreneurship development project. With this contribution CZM will provide seed money to poverty-stricken people so that they can evolve themselves as entrepreneurs.
Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Government Secretaries, diplomats, dignitaries, business leaders and former Presidents of DCCI were present on the occasion.
