653 women victimised in 8 months in Ctg

The incident of tortures and repressions on women has alarmingly increased in the port city recently. In the last 8 months, about 653 incidents against women occurred of which 395 cases have been lodged with the Women & Child Repression Tribunal in Chittagong.
This tragic picture of women torture was disclosed at a press conference held at Chittagong as arranged by the NGO network – Sexual Violance Protection Network on Wednesday. The picture of women oppression was revealed from the sources of One Stop Crisis Centre, Victim Support centre and Law providing centres of Chittagong.
Convenor of the Network and social personality Jesmin Sultana Paru told that the rate of women torture is too high than the previous statistics.
She said most of the sufferers won’t desire to go go police for redress the matter dueto social shame and hence real pictures not come . She said the numbers of repression are more than that because of hiding the incidents .
She also following the intervention of the affluents, the accused released unpunished. The press meet was told that to form committee in localities involving the people of all strata to create religious awareness against the women repression and to curb the violence against women. Member Secretary of Network and Convenor of Ganojagoran Mancha Sharif Chowhan delivered the address of welcome in the press meet.
Among others, members of Network Advocate Akhatr Kabir Chowdhury, Sunil Dhar, Jobair Rasid,Kamrun Nahar, Mahfuza Akhter, Nasrin Sultana , Nargis Chowdhury, Sadia Tazin, Chandan Barua and Mehdi Hasan were present in the press meet.
