City Desk:

The first national Artificial Intelligence Readiness Assessment (RAM) Report has been launched on Sunday.

A milestone step to guide how the country adopts AI in ways that protect rights, promote inclusion and strengthen public institutions. The report was unveiled at the Bangladesh Computer Council Auditorium at ICT Tower in Dhaka, at an event jointly organised by the ICT Division, a2i, UNESCO and UNDP Bangladesh. Senior representatives from government, development partners, UN agencies, academia, the private sector and civil society attended the launch.

The RAM Report provides a comprehensive picture of Bangladesh’s institutional, legal, social, and technical preparedness for AI. It finds that Bangladesh has already built strong foundations in e-government and enjoys high levels of public trust in government digital services. At the same time, it highlights important gaps that must be addressed: uneven connectivity and power supply outside major cities, a persistent gender and urban-rural digital divide, limited high-end computing capacity, and the need for stronger data protection, cyber security and AI-related skills, says a press release.

Speaking as Chief Guest, Mr. Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Hon’ble Chief Adviser, ICT Division, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
