Mojahidul Islam Awarded the Prestigious Digital Bangladesh Award 2022 for Outstanding ICT Journalism

Mojahidul Islam was honored with the ‘Digital Bangladesh Award 2022’ at the national level, standing out as the sole recipient in the private individual category. This prestigious recognition was awarded for his outstanding contributions to journalism, especially for publishing feature stories aligned with the government’s Digital Bangladesh Vision. His work predominantly focuses on information technology and digital transformation, and he has played a crucial role in raising awareness among youth and the wider public about the responsible use of information technology.

The award was presented by the Bangladesh ICT Division during the inaugural and award ceremony of Digital Bangladesh Day 2022. The event took place at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) on Monday, December 12. Mojahidul Islam, who is the IT Editor of Daily Ittefaq and the President of the Bangladesh ICT Journalists Forum (BIJF), received this esteemed honor. The Digital Bangladesh Award is considered one of the most prestigious prizes for ICT journalism in Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was the chief guest at the event, which was chaired by State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak. Among the special guests were AKM Rahmatullah, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Posts, Telecommunications, and IT, and NM Ziaul Alam, Senior Secretary of the ICT Division. During the ceremony, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina warmly congratulated all the recipients of the award, acknowledging their contributions to the digital development of the country.

With nearly two decades of experience in technology journalism, Mojahidul Islam has established himself as a prominent figure in ICT and telecom journalism. His passion for technology has earned him the trust of fellow journalists, tech experts, and a broad audience seeking insights into the latest technological advancements both locally and globally. His voice carries weight in national discussions on digital transformation, governance, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, nanotechnology, genetics, climate change, and telecom infrastructure. His work combines heartfelt storytelling with evidence-based analysis, making his writing not only informative but also inspiring. As one of the most prominent tech writers of his time, he places information and technology at the core of his perspective.

Mojahidul Islam holds an academic background in ICT, having graduated in Computer Science. Over the years, he has published more than ten books, most of which focus on ICT topics. He began his journalism career in 1999 with The New Nation, where he contributed to the launch of a dedicated IT page as an Associate Editor. In 2002, he introduced a weekly Bangla page titled “Online” at Ajker Kagoj, during his editorship. The following year, he joined e-Biz as Assistant Editor and later advanced to roles such as Executive Editor, Managing Editor, and Acting Editor.

In 2006, he joined Daily Ittefaq, one of Bangladesh’s oldest and most influential newspapers, taking on editorial responsibilities for the ICT section. He was promoted to IT Editor in 2009. Throughout his career, Mojahidul Islam has received numerous awards, including the Pioneer IT Journalist of Bangladesh in 2010 from Addaghor.com, the Best Media Coordinator Award from the British Council for a children’s art competition in 2010, the Excellence in Technology Reporting Award from the Bangladesh Computer Society in 2012, the Data Center Reporting Excellence Award from the Bangladesh Data Center Professionals Association in 2017, and the itel Mobile Award in 2017, among others. These accolades reflect his dedication and impact as a journalist.

Expressing his humility regarding the recent recognition, Mojahidul Islam stated, “It was a great honor. My joy knows no bounds. It feels like a dream. This award belongs to my readers; without their inspiration, I wouldn’t be where I am today in tech journalism. My writing will continue to contribute to building an inclusive Digital Bangladesh.” He firmly believes that the ICT sector holds enormous potential to significantly boost the country’s economic growth and to achieve the vision of a Smart Bangladesh by 2041.
