Medical team hopeful about Khaleda’s recovery in BD

The medical board treating BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia believes she may recover in Bangladesh with proper care, even without being taken abroad.
A member of the board, requesting anonymity, said on Sunday night that her condition has shown slight improvement.
“Madam is doing better than before. We are giving her the best possible treatment here, and we believe she can recover in the country. She has been in more critical condition earlier and still recovered. It may not be necessary to take her to London,” the doctor said.
He added that several of Khaleda’s health indicators have improved. “CT scans, ECG, and some other tests were conducted on Sunday, and the results came back better.”
Regarding how long she will remain in the CCU, he said it depends on her physical progress.
“Local and foreign specialists are ensuring the highest level of care. Her daughter-in-law, Dr Zubaida Rahman, is coordinating the treatment directly at her bedside and will stay in Bangladesh for several more days.”
The doctor also mentioned that Khaleda occasionally tries to speak with her family members. “Her younger brother, his wife, and her two daughters-in-law have been constantly at her side.”
Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Dr Enamul Haque Chowdhury said on Sunday night that Khaleda will be taken to London once the medical board gives its final approval.
“The Qatar government is ready to send an air ambulance whenever required. That arrangement is not an issue. We are waiting for the board’s decision. With everyone’s prayers, we hope she recovers.
If the board concludes that she needs advanced care, she will be taken to London. The specific hospital will be decided later,” he said.
Last Thursday, the medical board recommended sending her to the UK for advanced treatment.
It was announced that she would be flown to London on a special air ambulance arranged by the Emir of Qatar, similar to the arrangement made in January. The air ambulance was expected to depart on Friday morning.
However, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday that the air ambulance could not reach Dhaka due to technical issues. He later said it was expected to arrive on Saturday, but it had still not come by Sunday. Its arrival remains uncertain.
As usual, Dr Zubaida Rahman visited Evercare Hospital on Sunday afternoon to check on Khaleda Zia.
A member of the medical board, she arrived in Dhaka on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight on Friday morning and has since been closely monitoring her condition.
Even while staying at her Dhanmondi residence, she receives regular updates over the phone, said Atiqur Rahman Rumon of the BNP Media Cell.
Khaleda Zia has been under treatment at Evercare Hospital since November 23 and was moved to the Critical Care Unit on November 27 due to multiple health complications.
Her care is being supervised by a medical board led by cardiologist Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, which includes specialists from Evercare Hospital as well as experts from the UK, USA, and China.
