A three-member team from the Dhaka Detective Branch (DB), led by its Additional Commissioner Harun-Or-Rashid, has arrived in India to investigate the murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar, who was brutally killed in Kolkata two weeks ago.
Speaking to journalists in Kolkata, DB Chief Harun-Or-Rashid stated that the main accused in the murder may have escaped from Nepal to the United States.
He indicated that the accused likely took an air route via Dubai to reach America.
“We have just arrived here. Under our criminal Act, there is a section called Extra Territorial Offence, which allows us to investigate crimes committed outside Bangladesh,” explained the Bangladeshi detective.
The DB team suggested that a dispute over gold smuggling between Anar and his friend, a US citizen and business partner, could have been the motive behind the crime. “The mastermind, the beneficiary, and those who executed the plans are all Bangladeshis.
The murder plot was planned in Bangladesh. Our primary task now is to advance the investigation,” Harun-Or-Rashid elaborated.
He mentioned that the Kolkata Police have shared crucial details about the case, and CCTV footage will be thoroughly reviewed.
The DB official also noted, “The main plotter, Akhtaruzzaman, might have escaped from Kathmandu to the US via Dubai. We are attempting to trace him through Interpol. We will visit the CID office and meet with CID officers. We aim to interrogate the arrested suspects to gather more information.”
