Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd) on Saturday said leaders and high officials of different law enforcement agencies of the immediate past government have fled the country between August 5 and 7 last.

“Security measures have been tightened at frontiers so that none can flee the country again. So, it would become tougher for many of them to flee the country at present. Not only police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), rather people are now capturing those who attempt to flee the country,” he said.

He made the remarks while inaugurating the “Scout Shaheed Meer Mugdha Bhaban” and gateway of the Armed Police Battalion School and College constructed in honor of the Shaheed Mugdha at the school in the capital city’s Uttara area, reports BSS.

About wholesale filing of cases, the home adviser said, “No arrest to be made immediately after lodging of the cases. Investigation would be carried out first. Then legal action would be taken only after they are found guilty.”

He continued that previously police used to file cases, but now the general people are filing the cases against those criminals.

Paying tribute to martyrs of the student-people movement including Meer Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdha, Jahangir Alam said the government would give due honour to the martyrs alongside taking measures for ensuring proper treatment of those who sustained injuries during the movement.

“If it is required to send the injured people abroad for better treatment, the government will do so,” he added.

Senior Secretary of the Security Services Division Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam, father and twin brother of martyr Mugdha Meer Mosafizur Rahman and Meer Mahmudur Rahman Deepta were present, among others.

Armed Police Battalion Chief and Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Selim Md Jahangir presided over the function.
