May Day observed: Labour friendly atmosphere, ensuring rights of workers stressed

The historic May Day was observed on Monday in different districts of the country in a befitting manner.
Various political parties, trade unions, labour and socio-cultural organisations organized various programs including discussion meetings, rallies and cultural functions marking the day. Our correspondent and agencies report:
Netrakona Correspondent says : The historic May Day was observed here Monday in Netrakona.
This year’s theme of the day is Sramik- Malik Oikyo Gori, Smart Bangladesh Gorey Tuli (Forge unity of workers -Owners and build smart Bangladesh).
Netrakona District Administration, different political parties, workers associations and trade unions including District Awami League, District Sramik League, Road Transport Workers Association, Construction Workers Association, Sonali Bank Employees Union and Rickshaw and Auto-Rickshaw Sramik Associations and Shop Employees Association have arranged various programmes marking the day.
As part of the program, a colorful rally was brought out in the district town from local Muktarpara ground in the morning under the auspices of the District Administration.
The rally after parading different main roads of the town ended at local public hall premises.
State minister for social welfare and heroic freedom fighter Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru led the rally. Then, Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali, MP, deputy commissioner Netrakona Anjana Khan Mojlish, chairman of Netrakona Zila parishad Asit Kumar Sarker Sazal, police super Netrakona Mohammad Foyaz Ahmed mayor of Netrakona municipality Nazrul Islam Khan, chairman of Netrakona Sader upazila Ataur Rahman Manik, president of district Awami League (AL) Advocate Amirul Islam and general secretary of the district AL Advocate Shamsur Rahman Liton were frontline of the rally.
District administration also held a discussion meeting at Netrakona public hall.
State minister for social welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru addressed the meeting as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Netrakona Anjana Khan Mojlish in the chair.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by Habiba Rahman Khan Shafali MP, chairman of Netrakona zila parishad Asit Kumar Sarker Sazal, police super Netrakona Mohammad Foyaz Ahmed, mayor of Netrakona municipality Nazrul Islam Khan, chairman of Netrakona sader upazila Ataur Rahman Manik, president of district Awami League (AL) Advocate Amirul Islam and general secretary of the district AL Advocate Shamsur Rahman Liton.
Speaking at the meeting, the chief guest Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru said, the present government led by prime minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing various pragmatic programs for the betterment of the working class people of the country.

On this occasion, a colorful rally was held from the District Commissioner’s office to the Town Hall Square at 10.00 am organized by the District Administration and Regional Labour Department, Rangpur. A discussion meeting was held at the Town Hall premises at 10.30 am. Deputy Commissioner presided over the event. Chitralekha Nazneen, Divisional Commissioner of Rangpur Division, Md Habibur Rahman was present as the chief guest, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police (Administration and Finance) of Rangpur range, A, F, M Anjuman Kalam, Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration and Finance) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police were present as special guests. The District Administration has arranged a rally, discussion and cultural function marking the day.
A discussion meeting was held at Art Council Auditorium on Monday morning.
DC in Kishoreganj Md Abul Kalam Azad attended as chief guest and. SP Mohammad Rasel Sheikh PPM (Bar) Zila Parishad chairman and ruling Awami League district president Advocate Zillur Rahman and CS dr. Saiful Islam were special guests ,while ADC (General) Farhad Chowdhury presided over the programme
Labour leaders said that workers were passing hard time to run their families amid price hikes of the essential commodities.
They also demanded that the government should set Tk 20,000 as the minimum monthly wage of a worker as prices of essentials had gone up over time. They urged the government not to cut jobs of any worker and demanded housing facilities, health insurance and pension as prescribed by the law.
They also demanded an end to the oppression on workers.
The Trade Union Centre (TUC) brought out a rally in front of Rongmahal cinema hall where its president. Abdus Satter and General Secretary Abdur Rahman called on the government to increase wages of the workers immediately.
Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BASOD) arranged a rally brought out in the town led by district general secretary Comrade Advocate Shafiqul Islam. The left leaders demanded freedom of trade union and other rights of workers.
Manikganj Correspondent reports : On the occasion of the May Day, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Manikganj District Committee organized a discussion meeting, protest march and rally in Manikganj.
“Workers of the world be one”, “May day is giving post-dictatorship, remove the bad regime and change the system, stop this terrorist who takes bills without paying gas, cut gas, electricity, water, net, satellite bills by half, trade in all factories Launch the union, stop the anti-trade union black law, cancel the indemnity law along with the ICT law, build a worker-friendly fair society” discussion meetings, protest marches and rallies were held at the Shaheed Smriti Plaque area adjacent to the Manikganj Sports Association.

Mizanur Rahman Hazrat. The program was conducted by Comrade member of the editorial board of the organization’s district committee Md. Nazrul Islam.
Communist Party of Bangladesh District Committee General Secretary Comrade Mujibur Rahman Master, Communist Party of Bangladesh CPB Ghior Upazila Committee President Comrade Dulal Biswas, CPB Singair Upazila Committee President Comrade Nasir Uddin, Manikganj Sadar Committee General Secretary Dr. Ashraf Siddiqui, Harirampur Upazila Committee President Comrade Haripad Sutradhar , Shibaloy Upazila Committee President Vir Muktijodha Comrade Sankar Prasad Bhowmik, Khelaghar District Committee President Professor Jagdish Chandra Malo, Comrade Arshed Ali Master, Student Leader Russell Ahmed, among others, spoke.

Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent: Like all over the world, Ishwardi is celebrated as ‘Great May Day’ to commemorate the workers’ sacrifice day. On the occasion of celebrating the day, separate rallies and discussion meetings were organized. Jatiya Sramik League Ishwardi regional branch started the day by placing wreaths on the portrait of the Father of the Nation at the Awami League office in the morning. Then a huge rally took place. The rally was inaugurated by MP of Pabna-4 Constituency veteran freedom fighter Alhaj Nuruzzaman Biswas.
