BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with her condition being closely monitored by a team of national and international medical specialists.
Khaleda Zia’s personal physician, Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain on Wednesday night said it to journalists at the hospital.
The physician said, Khaleda Zia is receiving the exact level of advanced medical care necessary for a critically ill patient and is responding to the treatment.
Dr. Zahid Hossain said, “To provide the best possible treatment to the national leader Begum Khaleda Zia, both local and foreign specialist doctors are working in coordination. She is being given the highest level of care required for her critical condition.”
The physician added that while her medical situation remains complicated, the ongoing treatment is progressing as expected, with her vital signs and overall health being monitored on a continuous basis.
Khaleda Zia, 80, has faced multiple health challenges over the past few years, particularly related to heart and kidney complications.
In 2022, she was first admitted to a specialized hospital for heart-related treatment and received extensive monitoring.
Following that, she was repeatedly hospitalized for treatment of respiratory and cardiac issues.
Her health condition has been a subject of concern for her supporters and political circles in Bangladesh, with multiple reports emphasizing the need for critical care interventions.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia was admitted to the hospital after experiencing severe fatigue and low blood pressure.
At that time, her medical team emphasized that she required close observation and continuous treatment under the supervision of senior cardiologists and internal medicine specialists.
Over the months, her treatment regimen included advanced cardiac monitoring, medication adjustments, and supportive therapies to stabilize her condition.
The current ICU admission marks the latest stage in her ongoing medical management.
According to the medical team, advanced diagnostic and therapeutic measures, including both local and foreign expert consultations, are being employed to ensure comprehensive care.
The team also stressed that her treatment plan is dynamic, tailored to respond to any immediate complications, and designed to optimize recovery while minimizing risks associated with critical illness.
