A Dhaka magistrate court on Saturday ordered a five-day remand for Limon Mian, the lone accused in the horrific killing of Tawsif Rahman Sumon, the teenage son of a Metropolitan Session Judge, in Rajshahi.

The court also issued a show-cause notice to the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner for permitting the accused to speak to the media while in police custody.

Around 2:30 pm, investigators produced Limon before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court and sought a seven-day remand to interrogate him regarding Thursday’s violent intrusion at the judge’s rented flat in the Terakhadia area of Rajshahi city.

After hearing the petition, Magistrate Mamunur Rashid granted a five-day remand, following which Limon was handed over to Rajpara Police Station for further questioning.

The court simultaneously expressed serious concern over the fact that Limon had been allowed to make public statements while under police custody-a move widely criticized for potentially influencing the ongoing investigation.

In response, the court served a show-cause notice on RMP Commissioner Abu Sufian, directing him to personally appear and explain his actions before the court on November 19.

According to earlier reports, the brutal incident occurred on November 13 when Limon allegedly broke into the judge’s residence and launched a deadly knife attack.

Sixteen-year-old Tawsif Rahman Sumon was fatally stabbed, while his mother sustained grievous injuries during her attempt to protect her son. She remains under treatment in critical condition.

The attack sent shockwaves through Rajshahi’s legal and administrative circles, prompting a swift filing of a murder case by Judge Abdur Rahman the following day, naming Limon as the sole accused.

Police earlier stated that Limon was arrested shortly after the killing and claimed to have retrieved the weapon used in the attack.

However, the controversy surrounding his interaction with the media while in custody has now added another dimension to the case, raising questions about procedural integrity and custodial protocols within the RMP.

Investigators say the remand period will be crucial for uncovering the motive behind the attack, determining whether Limon acted alone, and verifying if any prior disputes or psychological issues played a role.

Authorities have assured that the case will be handled with utmost urgency given its sensitivity and the victim’s status as the son of a sitting judge.
