Judge gets death threats over Tarique, Zubaida sentence

A judge who sentenced BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman to jail in a graft case has allegedly received death threats.

A general diary has been filed at the Kotwali Police Station over two threatening letters that were sent to Senior Special Judge Asaduzzaman of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court on Oct 17, reports bdnews24.com.

The letters noted Zahiruddin from Bogura’s Soudia Park and Hatem Ali Saudagor from Chattogram’s Boroitoli as the senders, according to Shah Md Mamun, a court official.

They addressed themselves as the ‘youth of Bengal’ and threatened to carry out a ‘death sentence’ against the judge for wrongly sentencing Tarique and Zubaida.

On Aug 2, Judge Asaduzzaman sentenced Tarique to nine years in jail and Zubaida Rahman to three years for accumulating wealth in excess of declared income.
