IUB hosts reception for alumnus Prof Osama Khan

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) accorded a reception to Prof. Osama Khan, an alumnus of the university’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE) who has recently been appointed the next Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of South Wales, UK.
The event was organised by the Career Guidance Placement and Alumni Relations (CGP and AR) Office of IUB on Monday, says a press release.
Prof. Khan, who will assume his new role in May 2026, is also the first academic of Bangladeshi heritage to be appointed to the top leadership role at a public university in Europe and North America. He completed his Bachelor of Business Administration from IUB in 1999, graduating as Valedictorian with a double major in Finance and Economics. Currently, he is serving as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Aston University, UK. His academic qualifications include degrees from the University of Cambridge, Lancaster University, and the University of Surrey.
The reception event was attended by Didar A Husain, Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), IUB; Trustee Dr. Husne Ara Ali; Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Tamim; Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Daniel W. Lund; alongside members of the university’s faculty and administration and a number of alumni.
In his speech, Prof. Khan reflected on his academic journey and the decision to enroll at IUB. “IUB is an elemental part of my journey and most of my accomplishments in life are duly credited to IUB. This university gave me my higher education, first job, and amazing faculty that ultimately led me down my path.”
Reminiscing the early days of IUB, Didar A Husain said, “Osama and his parents trusted IUB when we were at our very nascent stage. Today he [Prof. Khan] stands tall, having done so well for himself, and making all of us immensely proud.”
Prof. M. Tamim said, “Prof. Osama Khan’s story is an inspiration to those who pursue impactful achievements. On this joyful occasion, I hope we are all inspired even more.”
During the event, Trustees and senior officials presented Prof. Khan with an IUB-branded sash, crest and an alumni identity card. It was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony and Prof. Lund’s vote of thanks. IUB Alumna Shamarukh Mahjabeen Tori (Summer 1994 batch of General Management and Human Resources programme), Director at Regent Inc.; and Sharmeen Islam, Head of CGP and AR, also spoke at the program, which ended with dinner and musical performances.
The event was moderated by Al-Zawad Islam Shadman and was organized and executed by Farjana Hafiz, Assistant Director, and Mukta Rani Nath, Assistant Career Counselor, CGP and AR.
