Israel has announced that a ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza began nearly three hours later than scheduled. The delay occurred at the last moment under the directives of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Gaza Civil Defense Agency reported that at least eight people were killed in Israeli attacks during the three-hour delay.
Less than an hour before the scheduled ceasefire at 8:30am (local time), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office abruptly announced that the truce would not begin until Hamas provided a list of hostages to be released.
Hamas attributed the delay in submitting the list to technical issues, the complexity of the situation, and ongoing airstrikes. Eventually, at around 10:30am (local time), Hamas released the names of three Israeli women hostages.
