The word barista instantly brings to mind a delicious cup of coffee, carefully crafted and served by a skilled professional. But a barista does more than just make coffee—they also enhance the customer’s overall coffee experience through interaction in cafés or restaurants. In today’s world, coffee is not just a beverage; for many, it’s an art form. Knowing the characteristics, flavors, and brewing methods of coffee, and presenting it in the right way, is an essential skill expected from a barista.

In Dhaka, Barista Training Bangladesh (BTB) is producing skilled baristas through specialized training. The founder of this institute is Chef Azam Ali, who also works as a Barista Trainer at Nestlé Bangladesh and serves as a faculty chef at the International Culinary Institute.

According to Chef Md. Ajom Ali, a barista is a trained coffee expert who uses machines to prepare lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, and other coffee drinks. But a barista’s job doesn’t end with brewing; they also ensure quality control, presentation, and even customize beverages according to a customer’s preferences. A good barista experiments with coffee and invents new drinks to delight customers.

He further added that barista training is ideal for those who want to build extra skills alongside their studies, as well as for those aiming to work abroad. In today’s global hospitality industry, barista jobs are considered smart, in-demand positions. With this skill, it’s easier to secure jobs in restaurants abroad.

At Barista Training Bangladesh, trainees learn not only coffee-making but also beverage preparation such as shakes, smoothies, iced coffee, juices, and mock tails. The institute offers an 8-day training program with a fee of 12,000 BDT, and a 16-day program with a fee of 24,000 BDT. Training runs 7 days a week, with special Friday-Saturday sessions for working professionals. Each training package includes 8 classes, and every class lasts 3 hours.

Why should students choose this institute for barista training? Chef Md. Ajom Ali explains: “I have been working in the culinary industry for over 20 years. I completed a diploma in Hotel Management in Bangladesh, and I also trained in barista skills in Malaysia. In addition, I completed Food Hygiene training at the Scottish Hospitality Academy in Nepal. That’s why I believe students should receive international barista training from an experienced chef.”

He also mentioned: “Every month, over 100 baristas are being trained under my supervision. They are now employed both in Bangladesh and abroad. I also make every effort to support my students professionally.”
