India’s Coast Guard (ICG) has detained two Bangladeshi fishing trawlers on charges of illegally entering Indian territorial waters. During the operation, 35 Bangladeshi fishermen were taken into custody by the ICG.

The names of the two trawlers are Sabina-1 and Rupsi Sultana. The FB Sabina-1 trawler had a total of 11 fishermen on board, while Rupsi Sultana was carrying 24 Bangladeshi fishermen. All 35 fishermen, along with the two trawlers, were detained and taken away for interrogation. During questioning, they said they were residents of Kutubdia upazila in Bangladesh.

On Wednesday, following security procedures, the Indian Coast Guard handed over the detained trawlers and fishermen to the police of the Fraserganj coastal police station in South 24 Parganas district. Later, on Thursday, they were produced before the Kakdwip sub-divisional court.
Earlier, on Monday, India alleged that a vessel of the Bangladesh Navy had rammed an Indian fishing trawler in the Bay of Bengal. The trawler sank in the incident, but 11 fishermen were rescued alive. At that time, five fishermen who were on board the trawler were reported missing.
