Ahead of the announcement of the schedule for the 13th parliamentary election, the Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus said that the government is ready to present the best election in the first half of February.
He came up with the statement when Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin briefed him on the preparations for the upcoming national election and the referendum.
The CEC, along with the Election Commissioners, on Sunday met the Chief Adviser at the state guesthouse Jamuna and updated him on the progress of election arrangements.
Election Commissioners Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Tahmida Ahmad, Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar, Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah, and Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed were present at the meeting.
National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman and the Chief Adviser’s Principal Secretary M Siraj Uddin Mia also attended.
During the meeting, CEC Nasir Uddin said that all preparations for conducting the election were moving ahead smoothly and that the Commission was fully ready to hold the national election and the referendum on the same day in the first half of February.
The CEC and other Commissioners thanked the Chief Adviser for extending full cooperation to the Election Commission throughout the preparation phase.
He also conveyed, through the Chief Adviser, his thanks to the law enforcement agencies and the armed forces for their comprehensive support during the preparations.
He added that citizens have already engaged themselves in election-related activities, creating a vibrant election atmosphere across the country.
Expressing satisfaction with the Commission’s preparations, the Chief Adviser said, “The government will continue providing all necessary support to the Election Commission in the interest of a free and neutral election.”
Addressing the Commission, he said, “You are on the driver’s seat in this long-awaited election. We must reach our desired goal.”
The Chief Adviser said the interim government is committed to delivering a credible election to the nation.
“We are moving forward with the determination to present the country with the best election in its history in the first half of February,” the CA said.
