It was informed in the workshop that the importance of agriculture in the economy of Bangladesh is immense. However, current agriculture is facing many challenges such as rapid population growth, decreasing arable land, effective and proper use of land and soil resources and agricultural inputs, differences in yields at the field level with research, and increasing capacity to cope with the effects of climate change.
In order to provide food to the population against the decreasing arable land and limited natural resources, it is necessary to ensure the best use and management of agricultural land. In this context, it is essential to formulate a sustainable agricultural development plan and apply suitable technology. Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) has been implementing crop zoning since 2017 with the aim of formulating a sustainable agricultural production plan to address the existing challenges of agriculture.
Through this, it is possible to save fertilizer costs and increase yields. Which will play a helpful role in enriching the country’s economy.
The programme was hosted by Mustafa Iqbal Azad, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet.
