Holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the greatest religious festival of the Muslims, was celebrated peacefully in Rangpur today amid with due fervour and solemnity.
Eid-ul-Fitr jamaats (congregations) were held at nearly 1,010 mosques and eidgahs under all eight upazilas in the district.
Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) with assistances of the concerned authorities and administrations arranged 77 Eid jamaats in the city amid tight security measures.
Like in the previous years, the biggest Eid-ul-Fitr jamaat, participated by over one lakh musollis, was held on Taluk Habu Eidgah Maidan under Gangachara upazila.
Thousands of Muslim devotees offered special prayers and munajats at the Eid congregations seeking divine blessings for continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country, its people and the Muslim Ummah as a whole.
They also offered special munajats seeking divine blessings of Almighty Allah for adequate rainfalls as a prolonged drought-like situation has been prevailing in the northern region hampering agriculture activities.
The main Eid-ul-Fitr jamaat was held at the Central Collectorate Eidgah in the city at 9am with the participations of high officials, political leaders and dignitaries of the city.
City mayor and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht, Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad, officials, academicians, public representatives, professionals and elite participated in the main congregation.
Acting President of district Awami League (AL) Momtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, Office Secretary Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, city unit Vice-president Nabiullah Panna, AL leaders Advocate Nawshad and Jashem Bin Hossain Jummon participated in the main and other congregations in the city.
Acting Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Humayun Kabir, Superintendent of Police Abdur Razzaque and high police officials participated in the Eid congregation held at the Police Line ground at 8 am.
The bigger Eid Jamaats were held on Police Lines ground, Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque, Sadar Hospital Jam-e-Mosque, Rangpur Zila School ground, Nasirabad Ekramia Jam-e-Mosque, Munshipara Eidgah, RCCI School and College, Kamal Kachna Jam-e-Mosque, Robertsonsganj Eidgah, Mandalpara Eidgah, Mahiganj Afan Ullah Jam-e-Mosque, Mahiganj College Mosque, Baro Nurpur Eidgah, Aftabia Madrasa, Nachnia Eidgah, Mekura Eidgah, Baro Rangpur Eidgah, Tazhat Eidgah, Satmatha Jam-e-Mosque, Jummapara Eidgah, Senpara School & College, Dholapeer Saheber Dorgah, Goneshpur Eidgah, Hajipara Eidgah, Shalbon Mistripara Eidgah, Kellabond Eidgah, Nilkanthya Masterpara Eidgah, Pakar Matha Jam-e-Mosque, Chiklirvata Eidgah, Kamal Kachna Jam-e-Mosque, Pirpur Eidgah, Baharkachhna Jam-e-Mosque, Chhoto Nurpur Eidgah, and Rangpur Medical College ground.
Besides, Eid jamaats were also held at Mulatol Madrasa, Munshipara Eidgah, BGB ground, Rangpur Cantonment, Damodarpur Baroi Eidgah, Khasbag Angur Mian Jam-e-Mosque, Keramotia Madrasa, Khasbag Jam-e-Mosque, Mirbag Ramchandrapur Jam-e-Mosque, Central Bus Terminal Jam-e-Mosque, Nachnia Jam-e-Mosque, Mahiganj College ground, Paschim Khasbag Charmatha Jam-e-Mosque, Damodarpur Chhoto Eidgah, Dhap Mohammadpur Jam-e-Mosque and Alamnagar Wakf Mosque.
Outside the divisional city, bigger Eid jamaats were held at Pirgachha Karbala Eidgah, Pirgachha JN High School, Pirgachha Ahle Hadith Mosque, Badarganj Keramotia Chandamari Jam-e-Mosque, Satdorgah Mosque, Alambiditor Paikan Baro Jam-e-Mosque, Parul Chechakandi Orphanage ground and Kishamat Bishu Manjai Eidgah.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims, has been celebrated in Rajshahi city with due fervor, joy, enthusiasm, gaiety and solemnity.
In the morning of Tuesday, the Eid Day, streams of people rushed to the nearest eidgahs, mosques and open places to offer their Eid prayers braving the inclement weather.
Thousands of musallis at the end of Eid jamaats (congregations) offered special munajats seeking divine blessings and eternal peace of departed souls particularly their near and dear ones, continued peace, progress, and prosperity of the country as well as greater welfare of the Muslim Ummah.
The main Eid jamaat was held at Hazrat Shah Mukhdum ® Central Eidgah Moidan at 8.30 am and Muhtamim of Jameya Islamia Shahmukhdum Maulana Shahadat Ali led the prayer. The second and third largest ones were held at Shaheb Bazar Zero Point and Tikapara Eidgah at the same time.
Senior divisional and district level officials and local elites offered their Eid prayers at the Central Eidgah.
Besides, some other big Eid jamaats in the city were held at Hatemkha, Stadium Ground, Shalbagan, Alif Lam Meem Bhata Eidgah, Police Line Parade Ground, Tikapara Eidgah, Mohisbathan Eidgah math, Upashahar Eidgah Moidan, RUET campus and Rajshahi University campus.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) decorated the city’s important points and road islands with national and colourful flags inscribed with “Eid Mubarak” both in Bangla and Arabic.
In addition to the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, the district, upazila and police administrations took adequate security measures to celebrate the festival in a peaceful way.
Improved diets were served to the inmates of different hospitals, jails, Shishu Paribars, orphanages and vagrant welfare centres in all districts on the occasion.
Thousands of people, especially children, poured in and around the city’s parks, historic places and other recreation centres including the bank of the river Padma to enjoy the Eid-ul-Fitr. Zia Shishu Park, Captain Monsur Ali Park and Central Park and Zoo drew huge crowd.
Children, young boys and girls wearing colourful dresses gathered these places where small makeshift shops were set up to sell different homemade foods and toys.
Eid gatherings of children and cultural functions were also held at different areas in the city.
Similar reports of Eid celebrations were received here from the districts of Chapainawabganj, Natore, Naogaon, Bogra, Joypurhat, Sirajganj and Pabna in Rajshahi division.
