Durga Puja rituals through Mahalaya

The formalities of Durga Puja have begun in Bangladesh with the Hindus performing Mahalaya rituals.

After early morning rituals in temples in Dhaka and other parts of the country on Saturday, the devotees started adorning the statues of Goddess Durga, reports bdnews24.com.

At the Khamarbari Puja venue, people were decorating the stage in the afternoon.

Hindus in Bangladesh begin Durga Puja rituals through Mahalaya Prasenjit Rajbangshi, an artist from Manikganj, was painting Durga statues.

This is the fifth of the eight painting jobs he received this year.

“I enjoy this job. I wait for this time every year.”

The devotees, who are waiting for the main festival to begin on Shoshthi, also visited the Puja venue.

Nishita Majumder and Sumon Pramanik came to Khamarbari to watch the preparations for the festival. The couple will visit the temples and other Puja venues of Dhaka before travelling home to Faridpur to celebrate the main festival.
