Dr. Md. Mahmudul Haque, Senior Lecturer at the Labuan Faculty of International Finance, University Malaysia Sabah, is making significant strides in Islamic finance and fintech. His pioneering research and innovative solutions are advancing global financial practices, according to a recent press release.
Dr. Haque has published over 20 influential papers in top journals like Elsevier and Springer, earning acclaim for his work across corporate finance, Islamic banking, econometrics, and fintech. His research on integrating fintech with Islamic finance offers new solutions to complex issues while promoting financial inclusivity. His focus on sustainability, particularly Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors, aligns Islamic finance with global sustainability goals.
A graduate of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and INCEIF, Dr. Haque has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Sher e Bangla Golden Award for Best Researcher in 2023 and the SDG Innovation Award in 2024.
Notable for his work in the Takaful industry, Dr. Haque has developed financial solutions for societal needs such as mental health and child abuse protection. His initiatives, including Micro Takaful Schemes for Beggars and Covid-19 Health Takaful Protection Plans, reflect his commitment to ethical finance.
In academic leadership, Dr. Haque served as Deputy Chairperson at the 24th Malaysian Finance Association International Conference (MFAIC) and judged the 2nd Bangladesh Fintech Award. His role with the AAOIFI Working Group on fintech and cryptocurrency is shaping international standards.
Currently, Dr. Haque explores Shariah-compliant fintech solutions and the impact of energy prices on commodity markets. His recent paper, presented at KLIBEL 30 & KLiCELS 23, examines “Resiliency Between Sukuk and Bond: Before and After the Vaccination Period.”
