The ongoing road repair work on the Dholaipar-Dhaka-Mawa Highway has left commuters facing mounting difficulties due to slow progress and persistent traffic jams. Stretching from Dholaipar in Dhaka to Mawa in Munshiganj, the vital highway serves as a major route for thousands of vehicles daily, including buses, trucks, and private cars.

However, the prolonged and delayed repairs have significantly disrupted travel, increasing the strain on daily commuters and transport services.

Construction work on the highway has been underway for several months, but according to local sources, the pace of repairs has been frustratingly slow. Long stretches of the road remain partially blocked, forcing vehicles to take alternate, often narrower, routes. As a result, traffic congestion has become a daily problem, with commuters reporting extended travel times, often lasting several hours.

“I have to leave home early just to make sure I don’t miss my office hours,” said Rina Akter, a commuter from Dhaka, who travels regularly on the Dholaipar-Mawa route. “The road conditions are horrible, and with so many vehicles taking detours, it feels like we’re stuck in traffic for hours every day.”

The slow pace of repairs is also having a knock-on effect on businesses that rely on timely transportation, such as logistics companies and daily goods carriers. Long delays are causing goods to reach their destinations late, which is affecting business operations and increasing costs. Drivers have expressed frustration over the lack of proper management and coordination on the repair work.

“Sometimes, I spend more time stuck in traffic than actually driving,” said a truck driver who frequently uses the Dholaipar-Mawa Highway for deliveries. “The situation is getting worse every day, and there’s no sign of improvement.”
