Discussion with journos to resolve Sylhet waterlogging

A view exchange meeting was held at an elite hotel in Zindabazar of the city with journalists and leaders of various political parties organised by the 24th batch of Democracy International (DI) Fellows to resolve waterlogging in Munsipara area of Sylhet City Corporation On Wednesday.

This exchange meeting was held under the ‘Strengthening Political Landscape’ project of the international organization Democracy International with the financial support of USAID on the development of drainage management.

In the exchange meeting, two fellows of DI fellowship 24th batch, Sylhet district BNP former assistant office secretary Abdul Malek and 3rd Ward Mahila Awami League organizing secretary Jamia Ahmad Soni gave details about their initiative to the journalists regarding waterlogging relief.

They said that the Munsipara area of Sylhet city is a residential area and an important place.

The drain located next to houses No. 30 to 37 of this area is an important part of the drainage system of the area. Due to lack of excavation and depth in the drain, waterlogging occurs in light rains.

As a result of which the local people have to suffer constantly. Therefore, he commented that it is necessary to take quick steps to solve the problem.

Earlier, the young political fellows of the 24th batch of DIA conducted a public signature gathering program to create awareness among the people of the Muncipara area to resolve waterlogging. Along with this, on 30th May 2024, a memorandum was issued to the councilor of the ward to remove the waterlogging in the Munsipara area.

At this time, they expect the cooperation of the concerned councilor as well as other citizens of the society in order to eliminate the waterlogging in that area and increase public awareness.
