A new inter-city passenger train is going to be launched on a new route from Dhaka via Khulna’s Padma Bridge under the Pakshi Division of the Western Railway.
The concerned authorities said that the train can run commercially on this route in the first week of December. On Sunday (October 24) this new train was experimentally run from Dhaka towards Khulna as a preliminary to the operation.
Pakshi Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Shah Sufi Noor Mohammad confirmed the launch of new inter-city trains on new routes.
However, the name of this new train has not been decided yet.
It is reported that the train will run at a speed of 100 km per hour from Bhanga Junction in Faridpur to Padmabila Station in Jessore.
The train is scheduled to run at a speed of 75 kmph from Jessore’s Padmabila to Khulna via Singia.
Pakshi Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Shah Sufi Noor Mohammad said that the train started traveling at 100 km from Kamalapur in Dhaka at 9:10 am with 12 coaches.
Arrived at Khulna station at 1:10 PM. This was the third experimental trial of the train. DRM said, we have successfully completed three trials.
We saw that it took three hours 45 to 50 minutes to reach Khulna from Dhaka. The plan is to start commercial trains on this route in the first week of December.
Railway Ministry Secretary Abdul Baki, Railway Director General Sardar Shahadat Ali, Western Railway General Manager Mamunul Islam, Pakshi Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Shah Sufi Noor Mohammad, Divisional Commercial Officer Nasir Uddin, Divisional Engineer (1) Abdul Hamid and other senior officials were present in Dhaka and Khulna.
Railway Pakshi Divisional Engineer (DEN-2) Birbal Mandal said that the train will leave Dhaka from Banga Junction and enter Khulna via Narail-Kashiani and Jessore’s Singia station on the new route. This route from Dhaka to Khulna is new. That is why new trains will be run on this route.
Pakshi Divisional Transport Officer of Railways Anwar Hossain said that on Sunday, the train was run experimentally on the new route from Dhaka towards Khulna. It is not known what the new train will be named.
He also said that the new train has 12 passenger compartments.
It also includes AC chair and AC sleeper compartment. The new train will start running only after getting the instructions and schedule from the higher authority.
