Country’s five movies of February flop due to lack of audience

Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
More or less everyone knows about the woes of Bengali movies. From the mass media to the social media, many
people can think that maybe the cinema of this country is turning around. If anybody searches, he/she will see that new movies are being shot all over the country almost every day. Those movies are being released regularly in the
cinema halls of the country.
Does this mean that Saturn is cutting from the rusted forehead of Dhallywood? No one could answer this. The people associated with these movies are telling that they and their movies are the best.
On the other hand, critics are reluctant to call these movies again. Leaving these arguments behind, the audience is turning away from these worthless movies. For this reason, the producer is sitting on the way by investing money in the movie. Emerald producers return a portion of the total cost from the movie. A lot of people have talked about mass media as their own. That’s why even if new producers come; most of them turn away from Dhallywood after one movie.
Many producers have told media earlier that the director of the movie brought them to the movie by showing them various dreams.
Later, their words and actions are not matched.
Five new movies have been released this month. These are: ‘Peyarar Subash’, ‘Trap’, ‘Chhaya Brikkho’, ‘Srabon Jyotsnay’ and ‘Tal Matal’.
On February 9, directed by Nurul Alam Atique and starring Jaya Ahsan, the movie ‘Peyarar Subash’ was released in 27 theatres of the country. Ahmed Rubel, the actor of the movie, died while going to attend the premiere show of the movie before its release. Then the normal promotion of the movie was disrupted.
Due to grief, the director and the actors and actresses could not reach the audience with the movie.
Another movie ‘Trap’ was released on the same date. This is the second movie of Apu Biswas and Joy Chowdhury. It was directed by Din Islam. This movie is totally messed up.
On the other hand, the movie ‘Chhaya Brikkho’, directed by Bandhan Biswas, has been made on the life story of tea workers. This is a movie made with government grants in the year 2019-20. Nirab and Apu Biswas paired up in this movie, which was released on February 16. Although the promotion of this movie is strong, this movie has also lost audience after its release.
Meanwhile, Dighi’s movie titled ‘Srabon Jyotsnay’ was released on the same date. Directed by Abdus Samad Khokon, the government-funded movie starred Gazi Abdun Noor opposite Dighi. This movie is based on the novel ‘Srabon Jyotsnay’, written by noted litterateur Imdadul Haque Milon.
But the movie has failed to draw viewers’ attention. A week of release did not last in any theatre. The movie has been taken down two days after its release from some cinema halls.
Meanwhile, on February 23, the movie ‘Tal Matal’ was released in country’s seven cinema halls. Directed by Habib Khan, it stars Kazi Hayat, Desh Islam, Jara and many others. This movie has been released silently without promotion. As far as the audience is concerned, it has been found out that the movie makers also know nothing about this movie.
The owners and managers of different halls of the country talked about the five movies released in February. They have given negative feedback regarding the business of these movies.
Ahsanullah, Manager of Shyamoli Cinema Hall, told this correspondent, “The movies ‘Peyarar Subash’, ‘Srabon Jyotsany’ did not run well in the cinema halls. Trouble is going on in our cinema. Commercial movies are not coming anymore. Now we are playing the old movie ‘Priyotoma’ in Shyamoli Cinema Hall. But let’s repeat old movies and quotas? For the first few days ‘Peyarar Subash’ was running well. However, the movie could not be pulled in the second week. And we could not run a week in ‘Srabon Jyotsnay’. After two days, we downloaded it and played the movie ‘Priyotoma’.”
Meanwhile, these movies of the country which were released this month could not attract the audience; rather the viewers of Bengali cinema were disappointed.
Cinema experts said that if this continues, domestic cinema will become a memory.
